"My parents are happy that we study. My parents can't read or write but they say it is important for me to learn so I can have a better life. I want to teach others," said Seema.

In rural Pakistan only one in three women has ever been to school. But Oxfam is looking to change things for the next generation of girls. There are many reasons cited why girls are absent from school, they include outdated teaching methods, lack of facilities or, for some young girls, because their parents see marriage as a higher priority. Oxfam is working to ensure equal access to quality education for all children by engaging with district governments, rolling out the model school programme that improves buildings and teaching standards to more districts, and by inspiring communities to put a higher value on education.
